Who I am…
I like to think of myself as a dreamer. I could easily spend hours at a time staring at the way a tree sways flirtatiously in the wind or wondering what Miles Davis was thinking when he composed “Basin Street Blues”. I am an only child so I’ve had a lot of time to perfect this trait. I am quite charming. At least that’s what I believe. But then I do something quirky and it makes me think that maybe I’m not all that charming. Perhaps it’s the quirkiness that makes me so. I’ve been in business for myself ever since I was 8. Creating hand-painted rocks and selling them door to door in my neighborhood. I had employees, too. Then there was the abstract art t-shirt business. Perhaps an entrepreneur’s mind at work (I get that from my father); or the inherent need for me to express myself artistically (I get that from my mother). I like to think it’s the marriage of the two. Eating incredible food and traveling (alone or with those I love beside me) rejuvenates me; my camera always in tow. And I know love. I’ve been in love with the same person for nearly 10 years. Being his wife calms me and frees me in the most harmonious of ways. Loving and being loved has molded me as an artist and the sum of all these parts has shaped me into the woman I am in this very moment.
What I do…
I photograph what inspires me. For as long as I’ve had a camera I’ve been drawn to people. The way someone expresses love is magnetizing and is uniquely them. I believe a person that feels comfortable in your presence will naturally surrender to their purest form and place those perfect moments quietly in your lap. To witness it is blessing and I love being the one to capture it. My objective is always to go with the ebb and flow of a session or event and photograph what I think is beautiful and meaningful. Staying true to that philosophy means that you always get the best of me. I love what marriage means and I’m instinctively drawn to small events with a space filled with close friends and family; those that truly know the couple and their story. Or the couple that elopes on a foggy Friday afternoon. Just the two of them, no frills. I feel that an engagement session gives us the opportunity to get to know one another before your day and gives you an opportunity to see yourselves on film. Getting to know you and communicating as your day approaches lets us naturally develop a relationship that goes beyond client and photographer.
What I believe...
As passionate as I feel about the quality of my work, I am just as passionate about my responsibility to conserve and give back. Great care is taken to ensure that energy and resources are not wasted in my daily operations; from the actions I take to the companies I work with. For each wedding or session I book, a donation is made on your behalf to a few deserving organizations. However small, I feel that it is my duty to do my part and I humbly oblige.
